Pfungstadt, September 2008 – FWT 3800 and contactest 3800 are the new Cartec and Hofmann suspension testers which unmistakably qualify the safety-related function of shock absorbers and suspensions by Lehr's damping ratio Theta.
In a vehicle, the suspension elements provided between wheels and vehicle body absorb the effect of shock or rough ground. None the less it comes to vibrations which are quickly reduced by shock absorbers. During the life of a shock absorber its damping efficiency is, however, continuously decreasing which results into poor road grip of the wheels and steering issues.
The new Cartec FWT 3800 and Hofmann contactest 3800 suspension testers are designed according to the Theta principle which means that the damping efficiency of wheel suspensions is unmistakably qualified and damping suspension elements are tested under in-situ conditions corresponding to actual road handling.
This Theta-principle measurement approach is a substantial progress in wheel suspension tests as its results can be determined unmistakably, simply and accurately and are easily reproducible.
